Happy Thanksgiving

I spent Sunday afternoon thumbing through the cookbooks I inherited from my grandmother. One of her favorite chefs was Helen Corbitt. Originally from New Jersey, Helen ended up spending forty years cooking in Texas. One journalist from a 1999 Texas Monthly article said "She delivered Texans from canned fruit cocktail and turned black eyed peas into Texas Cavier." Helen certainly changed the way Texans experienced food. I found her recipe for Sour Cream Pumpkin pie and gathered up all the ingredients to make it.

Four generations of family are represented in these images as well as gifts from friends over seas. This year, as you gather around your Thanksgiving table, remember that you bring a history of favorite recipes, family traditions and a whole lot of love. Take time to remember those who may not be as fortunate, and savor the time you share with one another for it is fleeting.

By all means, make sure to have a second slice of pie . . . . and as my grandmother would say,

"It's the best thing I've ever flopped a lip over!"

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!
